My name is Michael McWilliams but everyone calls me Mr. Mac. With nineteen years in the principal seat, I am definitely a career principal. The role of the building principal has changed significantly in the last two decades. I have made numerous mistakes, but I have also experienced some successes. I want to share my stories with you so you can learn from my mistakes. Leadership development is my passion. I am convinced that school leadership is fundamental in ensuring all students learn at high levels.

My career in education spans twenty-five years with twenty-one of them spent as a member of an administrative team. I spent two years as an assistant principal and the past 19 years have been time spent in the principal seat. My tenure has uniquely positioned me to serve as a resource and support to principals, aspiring administrators, teachers and many other roles within education.

Recently, the elementary school I currently serve was named a Solution Tree Professional Learning Communities at Work Model School. To achieve this designation we documented three years of growth in student achievement data as a result of the collaborative efforts our teachers and staff members. This is a huge honor. I am honored by the designation, but I am even more excited about sharing our success with other leaders. Implementing the Professional Learning Communities at Work concept changed the trajectory of my career by reviving my passion to lead and providing a proven research-based framework.
